Future development

The relatively modular architecture makes it easy to define new engineering projects. Here's a brief todo list of ways in which FEAtris could trivially be improved:

  1. OK, it's not really modular yet, but it would be relatively simple to replace the code that assigns boundary conditions and checks the construction of a building with a function that calls the right code for the right problem.
  2. Update the code to use San Le's newer, more complex brick2 element, which also handles thermal fluxes. This will give us more engineering design criterion to play with (such as design of an adequate heat sink). It's also reportedly faster and more memory efficient (current analysis will abruptly get sluggish once main memory is exhausted).
  3. Add objects to represent the boundary conditions and engineering objectives in the SLFFEA post processor GL display.
And of course there's room for improvement in some not-so-trivial fashions:

  1. Have some kind of ``breakage'' occur when maximum stresses reached... this would require some IPC back to the 3D Tetris program to describe the new world state.
  2. Add code the SLFFEA to handle contact problems.
  3. Add better ways to visualize the boundary conditions and engineering objectives in 3D Tetris.
