Flying Wing

Flying Wing
Property----|----|
Difficulty __]
Speed ______]
Range ________]
My classmate Eric Silberg showed me how to make this one. All I can say is smooth! This elegant craft does away with most of the parasitic drag caused by having a fuselage.

Folding instructions:

  • dashed lines indicate valley folds
  • solid lines indicate mountain folds
  • congruent angles are indicated

  1. Begin with the glider base
    basic glider fold
  2. Fold the tabs up to the centerline twice
    fold away tabs
  3. Rip the front of the nose in half down the centerline
    nose formation
  4. ... and tuck them away into the holes in the front of the airplane
    nose reinforcement
  5. Fold the winglets. Give the flying wing a bit of dihedral by curving it slightly upwards along the centerline. Adjust the glide path by playing with the camber of the entire wing. The triangular section comes in handy when launching it.
    winglet, dihedral, and camber
  6. The completed craft
