Something like a single-use glass sword. Though actually it's quite possible to fashion the sharp nose into a little bumper that absorbs the impact of landing a bit more gracefully.

Folding instructions:

  • dashed lines indicate valley folds
  • solid lines indicate mountain folds
  • congruent angles are indicated

  1. This is the airplane I used in the New Millennium Paper Airplance contest to win the Distance category. It received some close competition from Peter's dart. Nothing record-breaking, though, the entire building was only about 100ft long, and the arrow might have gone about 70+ feet, which was more a matter of it flying somewhat straight.

    Instructions on Youtube:

I must admit I originally did not have any particular paper aircraft model in mind for the "distance flown" category. I imagined it will be long and dart-like, with as much mass near the front as possible, and an arrow-like tail at the rear. I have little experience in any sport that involves any pitching or throwing. However, I do have a degree in a martial art, and leveraging that, I hoped to turn my body into a whip, using the larger muscles near the center of the body to create a base of momentum that is transferred to a smaller, relatively relaxed arm and hand, and through some prestidigitation let fly a bolt of paper at roughly a 45-degree angle to the ground which would fall wheresoever it may.
